I've been lurking this sub on my main account for a while now, and now I'm wondering if anyone could give me some advice.
I had an interview at a local pizza place this morning. It was fairly brief and the hiring manager wanted to know when I'd be available. He asked me to come in tomorrow so we can get my paperwork done and I can start training right away and get a feel for the place.
I'll be working full time, mostly opening because I expressed a preference for the morning shift, but he asked if they could ever ask me to close (which will be at 02:30). I told him it won't be a problem (especially during the summer). The pay is starting at $10 an hour for the first six weeks for the probation period. Afterwards, he says there will be a raise, but didn't specify the amount.
Personally, I don't care too much about the money right now. I just really need to pay off the relatively small (for now) credit card debt my father might be trying to put me in. I know I'll end up giving him most of the money, but I do want to save up for when I move out and will thus need to figure out how to hide cash eventually.
I'm nervous because I don't know what to expect! I'm shy, and the manager noted that, but he says it's not a big deal for now.
I want to be dependable. Getting to work on time and doing my job won't be a problem at all, but I'm suddenly worrying about the future. The manager expressed wanting someone who will be there long-term (and it's true—a bunch of the employees have been working there for years). I'm worried about the possibility of something huge coming up in the future and me needing to leave or quit my job. I would absolutely hate to leave them hanging like that. Have any of you been in that sort of position before?
If anyone has any advice at all, especially when it comes to the food industry/being a cashier, I'd be more than happy to take it!
