Job Abandonment Claim

My girlfriends job terminated her on Friday morning (via text and email) for job abandonment. She had called off Monday 6/6 because her Mom was in the hospital and she was the only one able to get her there and be there with her. They were understanding of this on 6/7 when her supervisor called her before work to tell her if she needed to take another day she could, she went in anyways and they ended up being over staffed so they sent her home. On 6/8, the situation worsened and her Mom had to go back to the hospital after she had been at work for 2 hours, so she called her supervisor directly and had to leave a voicemail that she had to leave quickly to go to the hospital. She then called off on 6/9 and 6/10 via the phone number she was given to call…

She then called off on 6/9 and 6/10 via the phone number she was given to call off with. She has never talked to someone when calling off, we figured because no one would be there before their clock in time of 6 AM but since the supervisor recognized the call off from 6/6 on the phone on 6/7, we figured it was the right number.

She got a text at 9 AM on Friday (3 hours after calling off) saying her employment has been terminated for job abandonment via text and email. She responded to this person over text explaining the situation and was confused why it was job abandonment since she had been keeping them updated and the supervisor seemed to be understanding. The lady from HR said that she was told she left with no notice and then no call no showed two days in a row. She explained what happened, and what numbers she called and the lady said she’d get back with her. She never got back with her Friday, and her login to Workday is no longer active.

Can she still be fired for job abandonment?
