I’m probably high level complaining here but I wanted some opinions on my situation and see if there is others out there that feel the same.
Quick back story: I’m high level trained for a technical consulting position with 16 years of experience. I quit my last job last year due to covid and them not paying fair wages. Now we moved and I immediately got a new job in my profession, I had 3 companies offer me a job and I took one that pays about 70k/year before tax. Not the highest offer but the one with the best “feeling” about the comapny. The people I work with are great, my boss is great, I’m making new friends and I have a very flexible schedule which is awesome. Full benefits and 3 weeks of paid vacay…can’t complain right?
Well…my issue is that I don’t want to do this job anymore. I feel overwhelmed with the amount of knowledge that I need to memorize for this position as it is slightly different to what I did before. I mean you’re supposed to always learn new things and keep educating yourself on the ever changing rules & regulations right? I used to really like my job but now everything feels so tiresome and not fun at all.
What I really want to do is run a hotel/motel/airbnb or something. I am great at hosting and taking care of people and making their visit a unique experience. I basically ran the housekeeping staff for a motel for a few months and it was great but didn’t pay enough for the long term to stay. I managed a few airbnb’s including cleaning/staging and I loved it. I organized events and parties and just thinking about it gets me excited.
However, I did clean my fair share of bathrooms for a lifetime already so now I’d like to manage the people that do the work, pay them well and focus on the experience for the customer and quality of the hotel. But how tf am I gonna do that?
How do you change professions if you have a well paying job where you like everything but the work?
