Horrific treatment by large medical supply company

This happened back in December/January but I recently discovered this sub and wanted to share. My boyfriend started working for a large medical supply company as a material handler in the warehouse back in October. He was very overqualified for the job but had lost his other job due to COVID so just needed something to pay the bills until he could get on his feet. They didn’t give employees any PTO at all until after their 90 day probationary period. My boyfriend got sick about 2 weeks before his PTO was supposed to start (not COVID) and was told to stay home, which he had to anyway because it was a really bad cold.

He did not get paid for that time. He then contracted COVID at work (literally didn’t go anywhere else so it must have happened at work) and obviously, he could not come to work.

His job wouldn’t pay him anything during his COVID quarantine either because they “weren’t required to” and “he couldn’t prove he got it at work”. Thankfully with my job I’m able to cover all the bills on my own, but what if I was a stay at home mom with kids? This was literally a couple days before his PTO was supposed to kick in.

These companies work their employees like dogs for HORRIFIC pay, refuse to pay them when they’re REQUIRED BY LAW to stay home with COVID, and wonder why they can’t keep anybody.

After this happened, he got a much better job making way more with actual benefits from day 1. When he saw the offer letter come through, he quit right on the spot and came home! While I wouldn’t normally recommend this, they didn’t deserve any notice.

He’s now almost 5 months into his new job and loving it!
