I asked for a meeting with my boss and requested remote work, said that I was unhappy, and was told that remote work is only offered to “proven” employees despite me having 5 years of experience in this field and having worked fully remote for almost 3 years at my previous job. I told my boss that if I didn't “prove” I could do the job in the interview, they shouldn't have offered me employment. I said it's a hard sell when you already have fully remote employees in this exact position. I broke down the numbers on how much money I spend on gas to commute, how much time I waste, and how the office environment directly contributes to a lack of productivity for me. He would not budge. He insisted that companies were beginning to return to the office and tried comparing my rural location to NYC which has access to (albeit poor) public transportation and/or the ability for people to walk to work. Nothing was getting through to him, so I quit and walked out. I did this in confidence as I have a written offer letter for a fully remote position with a salary about $10k higher.
I am so fucking over these boomers with regressive worldviews trying to micromanage and bully my generation for being “snowflakes” while they continue to ignore reality and actively contribute to ruining the planet for everyone. I will not stand for this shit anymore. /rant
