So, I am in my early twenties and I have a teaching job as a aid in a middle school. I’m in my last year of college and I work in my college town- originally I’m from a small town in out of state. Anyways this new school year several new teachers came to our school, and there’s a lot of ~ diff personalities that I’ve come in contact with. One of these new teachers is a 7th grade educator, with little experience to this position and is super young(not that age matters, we’re just closer in age than most of my coworkers). I work every day in that class with a student with severe needs so I’m in there a bunch. When the school year started we immediately hit it off because they were from my home state, and it was cool that someone else was an out of Towner. I’ve gone to this teacher with a lot of questions, just about how to approach certain problems for my student and asked more for advice. -I always like to check my understanding of how the teacher wants it explained, so I don’t do it wrong.
Anyways, the last several months – we’ll really since school has started, there have been several concerns about the teachers teaching method. These concerns were raised from my boss, and when asked about my personal experiences with the teacher and how they teach the kids, I was honest. My responses to my boss about these “concerns” were honest, and never in a tattle manner. Just from my perspective, again I really liked the teacher and never wanted them to get in “trouble”.
Long story short my boss had several other concerns from other teachers brought to her attention and addressed it with the teacher. The teacher didn’t take any of it in, and completely flipped it on me! They had said that I ignore my student- the student is moderately autistic and if I would ever ignore them (instances where I’m talking to an adult, I never purposefully do it), it would result in an outburst, the teacher also said I’m always texting and scrolling on social media, that I don’t know the curriculum, that I talk to much to them/students, and even that I am rude and dismissive to the teacher and their students.
This is so false I actually can’t believe this teacher said that. I take my job extremely serious, I value my work ethic. Everything the teacher accused me of is almost neglect, and truly questions everything about me and my position. While my boss is “on my side” because he knows that the teacher is projecting. It is still incredibly embarrassing, and I feel disrespected. My boss wants to have a meeting to clear things up and I know that what the teacher said was not true, but I don’t know how to get across my disgust with their lie in a professional manner.
