A Lady was shot outside of a store i worked at while I was on my shift and I truly thought getting to leave was a privilege

I believe I was 14-15 at the time. I was working at a mast general store and my dad was dropping me off out front. I suddenly heard a loud boom and saw two woman jumping out of there car. My dad told me to just go inside. Needless to say the boom I heard was a gun shot and the woman were jumping out of there car because the bullet had hit one of them. The store was put on locked down and all the customers were promised free candy for the inconvenience (Really?) The store did not close that day most people stayed on there shift and at the time i truly believed i was being a bad employee and that it was a privilege to get to leave early. My managers were fairly nice when it came to needing to leave but i think the fact i even believed witnessing an active shooting was not a valid reason to go home says a-lot about what is expected from service workers.
