I love what I do and wish I didn’t have to charge for it to live.

This may be a little long, but I'll try to be brief. I'm in the mood for telling a story, I guess. TL;DR – I would love what I do even more if I could do it for free. I've been very lucky in my life in regards to work. I went to hair school at 19 which enabled me to be my own boss, for the most part, for about 15 years. About five years ago, I just lost all motivation and desire to continue with the drama and pettiness of the salon environment. I've worked enough “regular” jobs throughout the years to know that I can't handle having a boss constantly breathing down my neck. About five years ago, I just lost all motivation and desire to continue with the drama and pettiness of the salon environment. I've worked enough “regular” jobs throughout the years to know that I can't handle having a boss constantly breathing down my neck. I've been pretty good friends with the only shear sharpener I could trust ever since I was in school, and while I was talking to him one day, he told me he thought I'd be good at it. He told me all about what he did and I decided it sounded perfect, so I bought everything I needed, had him train me, and got started.

I work when I want, only deal with the people I want, and charge what I want. I know what it's like doing hair and what sharp actually is, so I do pretty decently for myself. Gas prices, taxes, and cost of living have definitely got me down and given me worries lately, but that's not why I'm here.

I absolutely love what I do. I get to drive all over, take my time whenever I want to without getting hassled by the boss, meet and teach new people, and work with my hands. I just wish I didn't have to charge. Knowing I helped someone do their job easier by fixing their shears or hooking them up with some new ones (which I definitely don't charge enough for) is worth so much more than the money I make. If I woke up a millionaire tomorrow, I'd go out sharpening and giving away shears.
