Back in late spring earlier summer of 2022, I was hired at a local car dealership. I went through the interview and oriantation process and everything. I was actually looking foward to making this my career.
Well on my second day of work, the topic of wages came up. I told them how Me and my wife had to be careful cause we had been battling our county for food stamps, since me and my wife had been out of work for a while.
And truthfully, I was planning on working my way out of that constant cycle of going around in circles ans trying to finally get a stable income. But my manager insisted on cutting my hours in half so that we could keep our benefits.
Since i was only a parts cashier, and she was the one that offered, I figured that would be fine. Well that thursday they call me into the office and Im met by three managers.
And the one that hired me tells me they are rescinding the job offer due to my disability conflicting with my hours. I actually begged them, asking if there was a different department I could work at or id be willing to work the full 8 hours.
Well they tell me they just want to split ways, so i left, my pride shattered. I tried taking them to court, but they lied and said they either had no knowladge of my disability, or it wasnt because of my disability but because i refused to work the hours given.
Since then, i havent been able to find a job. We are on the verge of losing our home and they didnt even have the deceny to pay unemployment. All they offered was to pay the rest of the day.
My biggest regret was not fighting them harder. But dont let my mistake be repeated. Even if it looks like it wont go your way, keep fighting. There may be more telling you its not worth it then be on your side, but even then keep on fighting. Dont let them walk all over you and think they can get away with it
