Not sure that it belongs here but having to write an essay to beg a college to accept you is pretty anti-work. 20 years ago I applied to nine colleges with a 3.6 GPA and a 1420 SAT score and got accepted to only one because my essay was about not knowing what I wanted to do, sleeping in high school because they teach the same thing over again for 10 years in a row, and that maybe college would give me something to care about learning about. I ended up studying English and Psychology so naturally I'm not in either field, and I spent 40 grand on my education to become a salesman who's completely burnt out. I probably had a bright future, but because decision makers at colleges who read acceptance essays chose my future for me I am stuck peddling shit to people who don't want it for the rest of my life probably.
