I started a remote job 2 weeks ago. Flew out of state for onboarding, have worked my butt of the past 2 weeks. My asking salary was $130k, when they sent me the offer it was $125 k. I accepted. Fast forward to this week where I heard back from my first choice in my job hunt, offering $60k more than the current gig. I accepted and let my current employer know right away. I offered to put together a 3 month strategy and said I was available 5 hrs a day until they filled the position. They said they felt I had been “distracted” and this new job explained that. I was gobsmacked. When I asked for an example they said I had dropped off of a sales call and then reconnected. Um, yeah. Because I was using my cell service for internet until I can get new wifi at my house (something they never offered to contribute to). That was it…. That was the the one example they had. Call ended with my apologizing, explaining I had to make a decision that was best for my family and that I would do anything I could do to mitigate the disruption of me leaving. Was told I put them in a really bad place and there was nothing I could do.
