So I work in a professional service firm and my team just hired a new person at my level.

For those unaware, professional service firms make money my charging clients for our time, and generally charge rates correlate to your salary.

I noticed today that her charge rate is about 35% higher than mine, which makes me think she’s getting paid way more than me.

I want to speak with her before I talk to my boss about this, but I don’t know her super well. I was wondering if anyone has some advice about how to talk to her and then, how to talk to my boss if my suspicions are correct.

To be clear I harbor no ill will towards her if she is making more, but I have far more experience and we’re about the same age, so I believe our compensation should be close to the same. Not her fault though.

Edit: we both work remotely and because she just started I haven’t even met her in person yet. Makes conversations like this awkward.
