My friend went out on FMLA and has been out for a week and a half. She will be out for another 3 weeks as well. Before she went out she had been suffering severe depression and was unable to produce any work product- she works remote.
She took retroactive leave, using up all her vacation time but doesn’t know if that covers all the time she basically wasn’t working. She explained to her boss that she was unable to get anything done.
Now she gets a text from her boss asking her to submit any work she completed on a task before it is assigned to a teammate. But there’s nothing, nada, zilch. She is worried.
I’m a paranoid person so I don’t know what to make of this or what she should do. Part of me thinks she should just ignore this request as she already told her boss she didn’t do any work.
She was supposed to to formally file for FMLA and disability benefits but for some reason she hasn’t yet. I’m afraid they’re trying to get stuff in writing to make a case to fire her.
How she she respond to this request?
Edit: She told them she’d need to be out under FMLA but didn’t fill out the paperwork before being hospitalized. She will be getting the forms in tomorrow.
