Advice on what to say if employer notices my ‘slacking’?

I'm not sure if this is the right sub for this but I need some work related advice. Recently, I found out that I was paid lower than my colleagues who have the exact same job title and experience than me, with around a £2000 per annum difference. I asked for a raise, which I am more than entitled to considering the situation, I am also a fairly hardworker who likes to get stuck in and volunteer, I always take on feedback in a positive light. To add more context to this, I have actually been asked by my manager, to train up a colleague on a task that they should know how to do, as well as the fact they have the same job as me, they are paid more.

I'm not happy about training someone who is paid more than me.

There was that whole discussion about 'why do you know how much they're paid? You shouldn't be talking about pay' where I calmy responded something along the lines of 'nowhere in company policy or the employment law states I am not allowed to discuss salary with my colleagues', to which I got a silent response and a quick change of subject.

My pay is really low, I'm the bottom of the barrel in my company, the outcome of the payrise talk was 'we can offer you £500 more a year but that won't come into play until the end of quarter 3-4 (so around September/October time). I was told that in order to get a significant payrise, I need to be 'overperforming' and 'overachieving'. I want a simply life, I'm not career driven, I just want to be paid so I can live my life. I don't want to be dying for my job in order to get a measly payrise.

I am currently looking and applying for new jobs and don't plan on being here then so I've really just given up caring.

The point of this post is to say that I am now giving the bare minimum at work, doing what gives me a paycheck and taking it easy.

I'm concerned that I will be pulled up on this as I am usually someone who will always offer to help and relieve workload (people pleaser), and now I have no incentive and just want to get by without stress and additional workload.

What is the best thing to say in this situation if I were to be pulled up on this?

TLDR; What do I say to my boss if I were to be 'questioned' about only doing what my job description asks of me and no more?
