Before anything, long time lurker & first time poster. Also obligatory on mobile, so apologies for formatting. Will do my best. Apologies as well for length, looking for advice I think? And if this type of post is t allowed, just point me where to go.
Brief backstory: Worked for a national plumbing company, and was laid off a week before Thanksgiving. Couldn’t find a job, until roughly April.
So I’m currently in a bit of a pickle, and I think it’s really starting to get to me. After getting laid off back in November, I struggled to find a job for literal months and it was ridiculous. I ended up landing a job with a company that does hot tub repairs, dishing out a measly 40k/yr salary (I live in SoCal) and was being ran ragged for it. Driving anywhere from 5 miles, upwards of 600 miles a day to do a repair or a delivery (just me, 5’9 180lb guy vs 1300lb+ hot tub and a truck bed.) And without going further into this company, communication between me and home base (TN based company) it was horrendous.
In early May, I realized that the company was a joke and there was no way I could do that any longer. I got a call from a recruiter, saying they had a job within my scope and wanted me ASAP. I cleared out my work truck. Sent in my resignation letter and off I went. Except it fell through two hours later. I start scrambling and take the only other thing I can find within the week which puts me at my current job, and my current dilemma.
The company I am at, is just commercial plumbing. And paying me $22/hr for my “training” which is me riding around with this absolutely amazing human being. The first day I met him, he openly admitted he cheats on his partner of 10 years. He is transphobic, homophobic, racist and lord knows what else. Constantly bad mouths the company to me, and in front of clients. And I haven’t met anyone else in this company other than the owner and my manager who’s been on vacation since I started, and why I’m still in “training mode”
For this past month, we have been going from 7a to roughly 9p every day, five days a week. Giving me no time for any work life balance and making me feel like I’m neglecting my partner. I’ve been laying in bed, dreading going to work tomorrow and debating on making this post for advice on what I should even do.
I don’t believe I’m stuck, but I’m just looking for a little additional guidance I would say? I’m getting new tires on my car in the morning, and was debating on dropping by another company on my way in to see if I could snag an impromptu interview with them, and potentially go from there.
I also feel like this is scatterbrained and missing information. Feel free to ask for anything needed. It doesn’t help I’ve been awake for 20 hours probably.
