After 6 months of the worst micromanaging I’ve ever dealt with, I just put my two week notice in with my company.

I want to start off by saying, that the job I currently have was an ideal job when I first got it almost 5 years ago. It was perfect! I traveled to various cities, visit my local offices to make sure they are running well and perform my annual audits. Company pays all travel, company credit card, ability to work remote (since some offices are located 5-7 hours away) it was ideal in the beginning. But fast forward to 6 months ago. We find out a very well known manager within the company was soon taking over our area. He’s not known for any good reasons when it comes to his employees. He’s had 14 people quit it step down in 5 years. Initially everything was fine, we did our jobs, buildings were running, no issues. But fast forward to 6 months ago. We find out a very well known manager within the company was soon taking over our area. He’s not known for any good reasons when it comes to his employees. He’s had 14 people quit it step down in 5 years. Initially everything was fine, we did our jobs, buildings were running, no issues.

He then started to bombard me (out of 3 employees) about my every move. Where was I? What time did I get there? What time did I take lunch? Why am I not informing him if I decided to leave a office a little early for errands. Granted I am a salary paid employee, I have no domiciled office and my manager is in another state. I usually do my job, go home or hotel and fill out my reports. I’ve been through 3 other managers, with no issues. It got so bad, he was even checking my log in status on my laptop and asked why I haven’t logged into it after a certain amount of time.

I finally had my breaking point two weeks ago when he made me fill out an hourly update sheet that I had to not only provide him every hour, but at the end of the week, send it via PDF and we reviewed it the following week, where I was still critiqued about what I was doing.
