after being promised a job next semester, i now may not have one

for some background info- i am a college student working as a tutor for one of my jobs. i have two, but i’m slowly starting to consider just applying off campus to some retail chain so i won’t have to deal with people who have never had to manage employees before in their lives. anyways. i have a very up in the air schedule. due to my major requiring very specific classes, it takes me awhile to get my schedule figured out. for reference my schedule this semester wasn’t fully determined until about 2 weeks into the semester. i expressed this to my boss that i didn’t know what my availability would look like, and she reassured me it would be fine. since i’m already an employee i wouldn’t have to reapply. she also said i can just submit a schedule and change it later, so after having a rough…

for some background info- i am a college student working as a tutor for one of my jobs. i have two, but i’m slowly starting to consider just applying off campus to some retail chain so i won’t have to deal with people who have never had to manage employees before in their lives. anyways.

i have a very up in the air schedule. due to my major requiring very specific classes, it takes me awhile to get my schedule figured out. for reference my schedule this semester wasn’t fully determined until about 2 weeks into the semester.

i expressed this to my boss that i didn’t know what my availability would look like, and she reassured me it would be fine. since i’m already an employee i wouldn’t have to reapply. she also said i can just submit a schedule and change it later, so after having a rough idea, that’s what i did. all good right? nope.

i got an email this morning saying that the tutors list was full and i’d be put on a waitlist. they gave the same bs “i’m sure people will drop out so don’t worry about securing a spot” thing i’ve been told a million times. i emailed asking for clarification, and she said while preexisting tutors would be moved to the top of the waitlist, since i didn’t turn in a schedule, i couldn’t get ahead of the regular applicants. didn’t she just assure me i didn’t HAVE to do it urgently? she even specifically told me before winter break was when it was needed. I submitted it 2 weeks early according to her deadline.

So yeah. Might not have a job next semester and have to stick with the shitty second job I was planning on quitting. I don’t think there’s any way I can fight this or ensure I have a stable income next semester, so that’s great. Just wanted to vent a bit because on top of finals, escaping an abusive relationship, and tearing a muscle in my arm, i now may lose my job. how fun!
