I work for a very small company that only has four admin. In March 2020, we all started working from home. It really worked well for us so we have continued indefinitely.
We all get along pretty well and get our work done and enjoy the great work life balance. None of us work full-time. I work 20 hours a week and a big draw of the job is that it was work from home.
I have said since March 2020, that if we ever had to go back to the office I was going to quit. This is not a career track for me. My lifestyle allows me to work very part time, my kids are both in high school and I just like some thing to do while they are gone.
Got called into a last-minute Zoom yesterday for the boss to announce that we need someone in the office because a couple of the regular employees have trouble with the printer when they come into the office. This is a one hour commute for me each way, I would have to pay for parking as well.
The thing that really steams me is that she had conversations with everybody before she had one with me, and they all decided that they weren’t the ones that wanted to come back. So I am expected to be back in the office starting next week.
Needless to say, I sent out my résumé to six different places yesterday. I was actually texting/networking while I was on the zoom.
Oh, they also have the mentality of “nobody wants to work anymore”. That’s not it… Nobody wants to be treated like a workhorse anymore.
