Ah yes, the stomach flu. AKA the “red flag.”

So I was just recently hired as a hostess for a restaurant. After my first day of training, I unfortunately came down with the dreaded 24-HR stomach flu. Vomiting, diarrhea, nausea; all the typical nasty shit you do not want in a restaurant. Now I was never given an employee handbook, so I never was told the policy of a 2 hour specific heads up to call in sick, I ended up doing it an hour and a half before my shift. Ironic. Well, apparently even with a doctor's note from the local Urgent Care, this (NECESSARY) calling out is a 'red flag,', and I think I might lose the job over it. My manager didn't seem happy in the slightest. I'm sorry for daring to contract a stomach virus, [MANAGER]. I despise work expectations these days. What was I supposed to do? What should I have done? Gone in…
