I work in a medical warehouse that shares the same building with both a bakery and landscaping all under the same company. Warehouse positions are supposed to start at $17/hr. This one pays only minimum wage. My previous supervisor was a dirty snake that I thought was my friend, before realizing that he was a lazy, entitled jackass who is beloved by one of my higher ups and despised by everyone else. I'll get to him later.
As the warehouse, and the absolute bottom line, we are at the mercy of other departments, including our graphics department and suppliers. If something goes even slightly wrong, we are lambasted by negative comments, even though it's something that is no fault of our own (graphics team not printing pamphlets on time, our orders not coming down on time or at all, or our suppliers not getting our supplies to us on time). At times, we've had to take pictures of requisitions, order forms, and supplies going out just to defend ourselves.
There are only 13 people working in the warehouse, with upwards of 5 of us doing the daily orders, and 3 girls working on filing specialized orders and kits. And I make no exaggeration that these three are our hardest working members. But it doesn't matter how much we do, or how hard we work. It isn't seen or even appreciated.
Let me get back to one of the main issues with the job. One of our managers (whom I will be calling DM – Dick Manager) is an absolute asshole. DM is an ex-detective who had a position literally made up just for him because the CEO, for some unknown reason, liked this guy and offered him a managerial position. DM knows nothing of what goes on in the warehouse, even though he absolutely likes to pretend he knows all that goes on.
He is spiteful, rude, misogynistic, and an absolute jerkoff. He has zero respect for my current (female) supervisor, and is vindictive to her, one of my other female coworkers, and even his own daughter. He highly praises my shitty previous supervisor, who brow nosed his way to a sponsorship for the police academy, despite the fact that he was so damn lazy and left work early (he was salaried) leaving work for everyone else. I remember one day coming into work and seeing that he was sitting at his desks, watching Tik Toks at near full volume, while another coworker was shipping 90 orders of pamphlets all by himself.
Back to DM, he is not shy about his favoritism. He was constantly rude to the graphics supervisor. Our bakery department had someone get their supplies so that they'd stop bothering us to get their stuff (because, despite being two separate departments, paid by two different sectors, their needs are our needs). He was fired for bickering with the bakery manager over stupid decision making. DM did not hide his happiness to them both leaving.
DM has been so harsh to my previously mentioned female supervisor and another female employee (whom I'll be referring to as C) to the point they have cried on the job. C, a victim of domestic abuse involving firearms, commented that DM shares the same disregard and mannerisms that her ex-husband had. She becomes physically ill whenever he is around.
I should also mention that he has a habit of spying on us, by either looking through the window of our bay door, through the cameras he has access to on his phone, or by peering through one of the aisles. My supervisor was comforting C when she came in one day totally distraught regarding arrangements for her late father, and DM was looking through the bay door at them. Instead of asking what the issue was, DM confronted my supervisor by saying that he saw them having a conversation “that didn't appear to involve anything work related.”
Last week, our actual supervisor was out on vacation, and DM made it a point to come down to the warehouse when all of us were in, and be as confrontational and in our face about everything as possible. During this time, the CEOs girlfriend (GF, whom might I add is in charge of the bakery because the CEO cheated on his wife with GF and it was either this or pay alimony) requested DM to get someone to deal with some of the bakery's responsibilities. And of course DM volunteered us to deal with it because we clearly don't do enough.
Speaking of GF, she is such as sweet, sweet bitch of a living leather handbag. Sometime before my time there, she fired someone because they had the Grade A nerve to leave early to VISIT THEIR ACTIVELY DYING WIFE IN THE HOSPITAL.
So yeah, I'm sure you can imagine how great it is here. Well its gonna be even better because my supervisor is planning on leaving by early April, C is leaving on March 17, and my other coworker, who is in college, is currently in an internship which will hopefully land them a new job.
