I got promoted to middle management with my first shift being the nighttime babysitter on 4/11… over 2 weeks ago I confirmed im still making the store minimum wage, and haven't received my $8 hrly raise. At that time I notified the assistant store director (the head is on hiatus) and the going forward wage remains unchanged. So, I contacted a union rep.
The union needs copies of the schedule & witness statements to confirm when I was promoted, which I understand. On the flip side, 2 weeks after notification my current pay has not been changed. In addition, my request for next Saturday off so I can complete my obligation to volunteering for youth sports has been ignored.
While I want to keep working the way I do, to earn the backpack check I expect, I am conflicted. Due to being part of a huge successful corporation, is there is literally only one other person to cover my shift. If I ask them and they say, no, and I still call in, I am more on the hook for disciplinary actions. If I say nothing and call in on Saturday, the burden still falls on the other person, but might get away with calling out cause the people who I told about the event might not remember I asked.
So, public opinion…
A) Try to arrange a replacement
B) Just wait and call out 4 hrs before my shift
C) Other (please explain)
