I recently departed a “position” for a company I had almost 15 years in for. It was a factory, that was always poorly managed. I saw a lot of nonsense in that time. I was never paid well, but it was my foot in the door for factory work. My goal was to learn as much as possible. In my time there, I worked in every department.
I ended up being in charge of a few critical areas. For which there was no replacement, because the turnover was so bad.
The tipping point was when my boss quit. He'd had enough. I can list the nonsense for days, but I'd like to keep this short.
I accepted, and have since, thoroughly enjoyed a new job. With half the responsibilities. And the same “title”. I went from sub $20/hr -> $63k/yr ($30+/hr). Old employer swore I was being paid fairly for the market. They also tried for days to get me to stay after putting in my two week notice.
Both jobs are in the same town. In very similar markets.
My favorite part: The old employer complains about the terrible labor market constantly.
