The first time I ever heard my husband speak was during a long and horrifying presentation about how much more profit our company would be making by saving on labor costs once we completed the year long transition of our existing systems to a platform that would be fully automated. He piped up from the very back of the room and asked, “Are you planning on paying any retention bonuses to ensure that we have enough personnel to cover the transition to this platform that is going to eliminate all their jobs?” The room was silent and the presenter stammered out a very uncomfortable, “not at this time” before moving on with his presentation.
