WARNING TO POTENTIAL EMPLOYEES:
Be wary of giving Anti-Pest (in Shreveport , LA) your time, they will waste it. They wasted an entire month of my girlfriend's time and they attempted to refuse paying her for hours of work.
They had her ride along with different techs over the course of the month. Then she took a drug screening during the middle of summer and it was dilute because she was over hydrated (temperatures were consistently triple digits and she was working outside in the heat). So it came back negative but inconclusive because of how dilute it was. She had never taken a drug screening in her life, so she had no idea that she could be too hydrated for it to be valid.
They then said that it was “suspicious” and that they would not be hiring her. They also said they would not be compensating her for the hours that she had already worked. She had to threaten to file a complaint with the Department of Labor before they agreed to compensate. They were going to try to get away with exploiting her.
Thankfully, she knows her rights and was confident in pursuing compensation. However, not everyone is aware of the rights they have. If she had not known anything about labor laws, they would have gotten away with getting a month of “free labor”. Who knows how many people they've exploited this way. Never let a company take advantage of your time.
Michelle is one of the owners and over the course of the month my girlfriend met her twice, only in passing. She is the one who made the decision that the negative drug test was “suspicious” and that she wouldn't be compensated. After my girlfriend threatened to file the complaint, they tried to pay her minimum wage ($7.25/hour) for the time wasted, despite the job posting claiming the pay was $15/hour. She had to fight for her compensation.
Be extremely wary of giving this company your time; they will not hesitate to waste it and try to take advantage of you. They fully expected her to be ignorant of labor laws and just accept that they wouldn't pay for over 60 hours of work. Know your rights, and stay informed. Don't let companies like this take advantage of you because they absolutely will if you let them. If they are willing to take advantage of potential employees this way, I can only imagine how willing they are to take advantage of potential customers.
She ended up being compensated, just not without a fight about it. My girlfriend would just like the knowledge of this to be available for anyone who might potentially look for a position at this location. Its important to know about a company's sketchy business practices before you get caught up working for them. She just doesn't want this company to be able to take advantage of any other potential employees who may not know much about labor laws.
