Any literature for employers out there to control employees?

Let me preface this by saying I’m an employee who works for an employer who isn’t smart, but they use these tricks which make me think they’re referring to a book. One big trick is always mentioning the cameras in store and how they are monitoring them. Admittedly that gave me the urge to find something to do when the store was slow when I’m either doing schoolwork or absolutely nothing. It was part guilt and part subjugation I wanna say. After some friction with em and some character trait reveals, I couldn’t care less about doin nothing and my own stuff now, even with em “constantly” monitoring the cameras at all locations. But the question still stands, what book do employers like to use to learn how to “optimize” their workplace and employees
