Any recourse for a job being falsely advertised?

My wife works at a small retail shop. A few months ago the two owners hired a new “manager”. Every year these owners go on a two week business trip in January. They need the manager to look after the shop while they are away. Last year when they got back they fired the then manager. Now they’ve come back again and fired the new manager. My wife told the guy what had happened last year and told him to watch out, that they would nit-pick him, but he was determined to do a good job. They fired him anyway. I’m sure they advertised to him this job as a great opportunity, and now they’ve hung him out to dry for really no reason. My wife is convinced they don’t actually want to pay a manager but just need someone to watch the shop while they are away each year.…
