I’m going based off my experience alone, maybe I was singled out idk. I haven’t worked in mgmt but I have the mindset that if you have a good attendance track record, you give advanced notice when it comes to requesting vacation/putting in PTO requests, mgmt doesn’t have a reason to question every little detail. Someone else also told me a while back that bosses don’t have a right to know, it’s not their business.
In my last position, I barely took time off when I quit I got a paycheck solely for PTO accrued & I had 80 hrs (2 weeks of pay). One time I came to work 30 min late, I texted my boss in advance & happened to have a meeting scheduled with him shortly after arriving. He asked & I said I had something personal I needed to attend to (it’s been a while memory is foggy) but he asked another question worded differently trying to get more info behind being late. We were working remotely temporarily bc of COVID & I asked for time off bc of my birthday week coming up. He gave a suggestion for beach condos, then 2 weeks later he tells me about some type of get together they’re having in the office for charity. I told him I didn’t feel comfortable, he then threw in my face that I felt comfortable enough to go away for my planned vacation time. Something else happened a day before I left for the vacation, he was giving me a hard time for not giving advanced notice for that same vacation I had planned, mind you I gave 2 month notice for a week of vacation. When he asked when I came back how it was, I told him I don’t feel comfortable sharing that info with him.
I told his boss & even asked for protocol from HR to see if I was following it correctly (I knew I was) when it came to giving notice for time off, neither of them faulted me. I told his boss he pries & I shouldn’t have to give so much information if I am doing it by the book. She covered his ass saying he just likes to check in with everyone & isn’t doing it out of spite.
His boss would check in with me too but not like him, my current boss at the job I’ve been at for almost a year doesn’t pry like he does either so far. Like they say, you don’t leave a job bc of the company you leave usually due to a bad boss. I left a review with HR & job board sites, call me petty 🤷️
