As a City Planner, Local Voting Matters

I've seen a lot of posts on left leaning subreddits about how voting doesn't matter, that it's rigged, that it's not revolutionary, so don't bother. And that pisses me off. I work in city planning. I work in city planning. Your vote absolutely matters, especially at a local level. Your ballot measures, your city council members, county commissioners, they all directly affect your community.

Decisions get made by a majority vote on a city council, or local boards, even if the majority is 3 of 5 council members. Decisions like putting in sidewalks, funding transit improvements, library activities, parks, zoning, all that. And these elections usually have abysmal turnout, and are dominated by boomers.

And before you say it's too hard to vote, I get it. If you live in a red state or have a shit boss, it's tough. But if you have mail in voting, early voting, or a polling station down the street, you better be doing the bare minimum and vote for local shit. You and your friends can tip the scales, and you are foolish if you think it's not worth it.

And sure, it's not bringing on the revolution, but it impacts your community a lot more than making memes on Reddit.
