So I'm your usual Eu guy, the one who makes 2000 euros a month by working and pay 500 euros a month on rent for a 35 sqm appartment in a tier 2 city (a nice one honestly).
I'm not even considered poor with this, I'm average, nothing special. Life isn't bad or anything, it's ok, I don't feel pressured, I'm healthy, I'm just a bit of a “Euro poor” compared to the wages in America, but I live a decent life in general.
Anyways, I recently learned about the wages in California by watching a youtube video, hearing stuff like “80k dollars a year is minimum wage”…lol, that's like top 2-3% income where I live xD
…Then I also found out about the cost of life, and holy ****ing mother of an uncle/
3000 dollars rent for a one bedroom appartment, 1.5 million dollars for really ugly looking houses, 800 dollars a month to buy food because of the inflation, adding to that the student debt, the healthcare costs, the fact that you gotta use a car in America yada yada…
Where I live, 1.5 million dollars (1.4 million euros) will allow you to buy a big luxurious city house, and yet I consider that very expensive, only the top 1-2% of people can buy it (like this one: https://www.seloger.com/annonces/achat/maison/uzes-30/centre-est/199275743.htm?projects=2,5&types=2,1&natures=1,2,4&places=[{%22inseeCodes%22:[300334]}]&sort=d_sqr_meter_price&mandatorycommodities=0&enterprise=0&qsVersion=1.0&m=search_to_detail&LISTING-LISTpg=3), comparetively the houses for the same price seem really really meh in the most expensive places in California.
Like, even knowing it, it's hard for my brain to properly understand this information. Picturing a 90k dollars guy living paycheck to paycheck in California but living decently when the exact same thing happens to me with 25k euros a year is STILL a challenge.
The hell…
