In case you haven’t heard, Rutgers faculty unions called a strike this week – the first strike in University history.
I am a Rutgers employee in the URA-AFT Union, who has just posted they are considering voting to authorize a strike in solidarity (we also do not have contracts).
The inner Poli Sci major in me is loving this whole stick-it-to-the-man-eat-the rich-pay-us-an-equitable-wage sentiment that strikes bring… but I am concerned about what this means for me as an employee.
If my Union strikes, what does this mean? Do I automatically lose pay, whether I partake or not? If I choose to work, what happens? How long do / can strikes last? Should I be worried about my job security should I partake?
Thanks y’all, this is my first “big girl job” fresh outta college & this is super wild to witness such intense history in the making.
