I've been with the same company for over 7 years but had a short leave of absence a few months ago. I posted alot but deleted alot of posts because I was harassed for being a “troll” account and people were taking my posts and sharing on other forms of social media and profiting off it. A little tl:dr; of the past few months is: Cash was stolen from my house which snowballed into my son and I moving out of the house when the lease ran out, going through a divorce, my credit card was maxed out and new cards were opened in my name, my identity was stolen by my ex step daughter, my credit is frozen until my investigation is complete. I can’t open any new accounts, I can’t apply for any loans or advances, and I can’t access my credit card. I’ve sent in the police report after she was arrested but it’s not happening fast enough.
My truck was set for repossession last friday. It was the last day I could pay before the repo was sent out and Yes, I know what happens when you don't pay your bills. I tried talking to a supervisor to explain my situation, pointed out that I have always paid on time prior to this, and that I'm so close to paying it off to no avail. I owe $1300 total before it’s paid off but I don’t have the $600 to avoid the repo let alone all the fees once it’s taken before auction. I have 4 months left on a 84 month car loan. I bought it brand new in 2014 and never had a late payment, but after two months of non-payment it’s automatic repo, and the loan company gave me all the extensions they could.
Losing anything that directly contributes to your well being and your ability to provide is terrifying and being so close to being paid off will be another huge loss that I don't think I will survive it. I've been dipping and dodging trying to hide my truck all weekend which I know is a shitty thing to do since the repo company is only doing their job so when they do show up I'm not going to fight them.
Today as a last ditch effort I applied for a paycheck advance through my job for $600. I was only approved for $100 but I accepted it to see if I could buy myself more time. (Spoiler it didn’t work). About a hour after I get called into my manager's office I’m given a print out of the employee requirements.
My manager said “I just want you to know that having a vehicle is a mandatory job requirement and it’s non negotiable”. I didn’t know that the person who runs the finances would tell my manager I applied for an advance but I told him my situation and I guaranteed to him that if my truck got towed I’d still show up on time like I have for YEARS. That this was just temporary and I would find a ride every morning or even walk.
He said no, I needed to provide my own transportation that wasn’t relying on others. After some back and forth he tells me “If you do not drive yourself here on your next shift you will be placed on unpaid suspension until you secure your own transportation”.
The last 4 new hires have all been let go right before they qualify for health insurance and I can't help but think they will use this as a way to fire me without it looking suspicious. They are constantly advertising new positions but don’t want to have to pay more company insurance.
TL:DR; There is literally no reason why I would need to have a car in the parking lot to do my job.
