won't give the long story as to why we're signing new contracts as it's not relevant. however my employer has got a new contract they're expecting people to sign and 1 clause is that when you leave you remove all employees of the company and anyone you met as a result of your employment (contractors etc) from social media ….and it specifies “including linkedin” wtf is this shit? it's like some cult shit “you leave so you're cut off from us and can no longer speak to us.
My wife is getting a new manager and the head of her office wants everyone to bond so is requiring everyone on the team to be in the office every day for the next 2-4 weeks. Where we live we are setting new records for COVID cases daily and up until this point my wife only had to be in the office 2 days a week and only with one or two other people at a time. Now there will be 6 people everyday right next to each other. The entire team is uncomfortable with this prospect. Two of her coworkers are threatening to quit if they're forced back right now for 4 weeks. I agree with them. What is an eloquent way for my wife to tell her boss she doesn't feel safe going in that frequently and that he can kindly f-off?
This is hardly as egregious as many posts here about how clueless and connected to the “old ways” our bosses are, but it was hella annoying. My last day of work was on 12/15 because on 12/16, I had elbow surgery. I was expected to return to work around 12/27, but then my wife went into the hospital after she lost the ability to walk following a fall, and I've been the sole caretaker of our toddler, who also got Covid around the same time I went in for surgery. In some respects, I'm very fortunate my boss let me miss this much work (unpaid, of course) so I could (temporarily) put my family ahead of his pocketbook, as there are plenty of employers who would have demanded I return to work as soon as my surgeon cleared me; irrespective of what was going on with my wife or…
I fucking hate work. We all do hence this subreddit and I'm sure there are some people out there that enjoy working. I don't understand those people. I hate everything about it. I feel trapped, I feel like I have to pretend to be someone I'm not, I don't feel free, I feel like work dominates the majority of my life and sometimes I feel like just offing myself because the idea of dealing with shitty bosses and managers combined with having to put on a smile and pretend to be someone I'm not and pretend to be happy all the time like a robot 40+ hours a week, every week for the rest of my life with no paid vacations, no benefits, only 3 fucking sick days a year, like who gets a flu and is only sick for 3 days? Wtf! On top of dealing with being degraded…
Been following for a while, I'm a Ph.D. student in Music History who's working on how the language of jazz – “improvisation,” and “collaboration” – gets adopted as a metaphor by businesses/corporate America to “sell” coming back to the office amidst a pandemic. If you wanna see an example, read this article, which basically equates hanging at the water cooler as akin to being Charlie Parker at a 1940s jam session. My question to y'all is would anybody be willing to help me out? I'm trying to gather data of emails, or even just first hand-accounts, of employees witnessing/experiencing this language/rationale. Please don't feel inclined to post publicly, but instead DM me if you're interested. All the research will go through requisite IRB protocols through my university and you can redact any information you want. Additionally, I'll share a link to my personal/professional website in the event you wanna see…
