I work for a company where I have the opportunity to help out my higher ups and peers with projects, answering questions, running small meetings, so on and so forth. This specific position isn't considered an actual “position”, so it doesn't come with a raise or any kind of legitimate title– you're just picked by your work ethic and abilities. (Along with stats, metrics, etc.) A couple months ago I was given a lot of responsibility by one of my coaches to help improve our team. I had been in this “position” for over a year now, so i jumped right in to doing what I could. (Along with several other peers who were also given this responsibility.) I was organizing workspaces, sending emails, creating action plans, making schedules, making my own schedule, implementing new activities, running meetings, the list goes on. Between the three of us, we were running…
(reposting because this gained zero traction last night) So, first things first. I already know that certain things can be waived per employee/employer agreement, so for the sake of discussion, let's pretend that I have agreed to waive nothing at all. I actually don't know what my agreement says and depending on your answers, may soon be requesting a copy. Today, I worked for 11.5 hours, including lunch and breaks. At two hours, I took my first 15 minute break. At four hours, I took 1 unpaid half hour lunch. At 6.5 hours, I took a second break. And at 8.75 hours, I took my third break. This is the website I always refer to when it comes to meal and rest breaks. (https://www.lni.wa.gov/workers-rights/workplace-policies/rest-breaks-meal-periods-and-schedules) If I have done my math right, I was entitled to a second lunch, but never got one. Am I correct? If so OR if not,…
I (18M) am tired… (Rant)
I’ve been going strong for a couple of weeks now. I can’t handle it anymore. The entirety of my life has been turned into being a zombie at work and dreading going to sleep in the evening. It began when I started my internship, all happy to find such a good place to work and grow. It’s now been turned into mindlessly submitting paperwork into the system. Combined with my side job it’s been around 50 hours per week. 4 days of around 8,5-9 hours and one day of 12 something hours. And for the cherry on top: I’ve got 20 (estimated by the school) hours to fill in each week. I’ve got no sleep, no social life and my relationship is suffering because of it. I can’t keep this up for the next year. I’m tired…
My boss set me up to look like I failed.
Been sitting on this for a while, wanted to finally get it off my chest. I started a job with a new company a few years ago – they're sort of a startup in that they were about 8 years old at the time and I was the first employee other than one of the owners' wives who was a bookkeeper. One of my projects was to build a machine to help make producing our product faster. I was excited for this as it let me be creative, learn some new things, and solving problems is something I really enjoy. I was given an absolute shoe-string budget, and designed a pretty cool, mostly functional prototype. I scavenged parts from old electronics, I 3D printed a bunch of the parts after designing them myself, I spent hours upon hours of company time trying to figure out how to make this thing…
Demeaning games
Y'all can we talk about Harbor Freight? I just applied there and they made me play games made for elementary children. Stuff like quick multiplication, division, addition, matching shapes and patterns, and the staple “does this picture or this picture feel more like you?” were the featured “games”.
