Can anyone explain to me why teachers, bus drivers, admin and school janitors barely earn a good enough salary to live on but we celebrate sports players or reality stars? It’s really sad. How do we recognize this yet not put yet another lifetime of people through trauma?
My girlfriend works at a hotel five days a week. She has only been at this job a month or two. She switched to it from another hotel job because they were horrible with keeping a schedule consistent. (First shift, then second, back to first, then third, etc.. what did they think was going to happen putting one person per shift during Covid, if one person is sick NOONE is there and there is no overlap…) Anyways, there’s the huge snow storm coming (from recently). I work as an analyst and this is my first real job out of college; been here about two years now, pretty much being WFH the whole time. It was a new field to me but I was catching on quick and even began to Quality Control others within my first year. About six months ago I was asked if I wanted to help train some new people internationally and be sent overseas to help set up and train a new office, but of course Delta happened at that time and things got cancelled. Instead, they had me become a team lead for their international project remotely and put me in charge of a group of 50+ analysts, making work plans, ticket assignments, conducting trainings, running meetings, doing one-on-one “remediations”, pretty much all manager responsibilities. This is everywhere because I am emotional and pissed. I am currently working in a pretty small kitchen, with mostly teenagers. When I was first hired I was told I was filling the sous position and that I would be getting a raise after a month once I can prove myself. Awesome! There was a miscommunication somewhere I guess and that title quickly disappeared and so now I am just “second in charge”. Whatever.
