I'm still in IT and it's taken me years to get where I am now. That being said avoid it, if you are just out of college or just had some courses or something you will get trapped in the tides of “endless temping”. This is due to full time positions requiring years of experience for entry level positions.
It's a plague on IT departments everywhere, the larger they are the more likely they will do it. They will run 75%+ of the department off of “temps” who are actually just perpetual contractors they get from agencies. This will usually be the vast majority of their desperately needed level one/ entry level support.
If you get hired on as a temp thru an agency you will be treated as. A second class worker, you won't get paid what your are worth let alone what full time workers get paid. In most cases they will string you along saying “you can become full time employee if you just work hard enough” that's a lie, those are for those who kiss enough ass. In reality they will work you as hard as they can, get you to do the work of 3 people and kick you to the curb the moment they are tired of you or you get drained. Literally they can call you on your way home to say don't bother coming back tomorrow and that's it your gone.
If you go in just keep in mind fte position or independent contractor or nothing, I've seen so many people torn down working as temps thinking it's all there is out there and that they don't deserve to be paid more.
