I don't know where the idea comes from that younger people were supposed to be paying in for older people. That was never the plan. As a boomer, I paid a percentage of my paycheck every year for 40 years, regardless of which country I was in. This money was supposed to be invested for us, and towards the end of our lives, that investment was supposed to have matured, and from that, payments were supposed to be made to boomers.
If the younger people were supposed to be paying for the older people, why would older people have spent 40 or 50 years paying into government retirements funds? When young people pay for old people, that's a pyramid scheme!
Someone once told me that the government raided the retirement scheme, and that's why younger people are now forced to pay for older people. That is disgusting!
