Thought this belongs here. Heard it from a colleague, a decorated WW2 veteran and a respected scientist. Like there is some very specific engineering field and he was (died last year) one of only few persons in the world who back in his days really knew how stuff works. All in all, he was a reliable source.
So he and his friend used to work for one of United Nations agencies back in 70s or 80s. Being from behind iron curtain they had certain regulations related to foreign currencies they both had to adhere to. They basically could not carry any foreign currency back home as this was a criminal offence in that days. So the money went from the UN not directly to them by via their embassies which applied some currency swapping for them. Which of course they forgot to mention in their UN employment contract, sort of 'gentlemen agreement'. Yes, you guessed right where this is going.
That other guy eventually came to conclusion he is fed up with living under Soviet occupation and fled to the West. He then sued the UN for withholding his wages for five-ish years and not paying him for the job he was doing and had his name all over UN-stamped international legal documents. UN could not prove that they paid him because the money went to the embassy. He won the case of wage theft.
This is the way.
