Atleast it is for the company I work for, if you dare to be sick more then twice a year first of all you risk being fired and second of all the first day of being sick you will need to pay with your days off 'salary' so in the Netherlands you get 25 paid days off but if you have been sick twice that year and become sick again the first day will cost you one holiday day. Isn't that just crazy?
If this happens I always take 2 or 3 weeks off. You take one holiday day from me for being sick? I take 3 weeks from you.. fuck you bossman!
