Bereavement leave for a grandparent you weren’t close to. Do you take it?

My mil just died. My adult kids (and me to be honest) were not close to her and won't be “grieving” . Pretty sure they'll be entitled to bereavement leave. I don't know if there will be an actual service, if so it will be very small. I would hope they would attend if there is one. It's local and would be brief. It seems wrong for them to take the 3 days off, but they are probably entitled to it. Just wondered if anybody had opinions. Also, when do the 3 days start? If there is a service I don't know if it would be soon or delayed. If it happens on a Friday do you still get Monday and Tuesday? If there are important meetings scheduled for M or T can they take off later in the next week?
