Best way to put in your two weeks for a place that treats you both wonderfully and horribly?

Leaving a job I love but doesn’t pay enough and the person who owns the place doesn’t treat us great on top of other issues of course. My direct supervisor is not going to take it well, I’m in charge of a department that will now have one person because everyone else quit. I feel guilty even if I shouldn’t and need to know if a face to face meeting is truly the only way to go? Everyone else leaves notes but that feels cold? If it’s the standard though then I should do that lol
