I work for a department store, and the section I work in, we make commission, so sometimes we have to work 6 days instead of 5. Note that I have worked six days in a row twice and I’m burnout and exhausted. So I called in this morning and I told my manager I wasn’t gonna be able to come in today. She asks why, and I said I had stuff I had to do today. She says that’s not a good enough reason and that I should’ve done the stuff I had to do on my day off, and she says she has stuff she has to do every day but she still has to be at work. And she said she’ll tell the store manager but if I can try to come in, I should. So after all of that I’m definitely not coming in. I feel like she was gaslighting me and trying to make me feel guilty for not coming in. For more context, I work with 10 others in my area (literally),so I don’t see what the big deal is. We get visits in our store so that was one of her concerns too, but it should be fine since I work with so many people. I work from 11-8 everyday and they extends the hours during the holidays so I’m exhausted. I’m not the one to usually call in unless I really need to, but I wish most people would understand if they want good workers with their best performance, they need to have breaks too. The only reason why I work at this store is because I pay the rent every month by myself, and most jobs pay sucks now. Maybe next year I’ll find another job. I haven’t gotten my cosmetology license yet so maybe I’ll work towards that next year.
