I can't go into much detail for obvious reasons.. and honestly I'm a little worried someone from my company might see this and I will get ratted out for talking..
The corporation I work for bought out a mom and pop business almost a decade ago. Once they closed the deal, they immediately liquidated several of the stores and laid off a bunch of people. Fast forward several years and what was once an inter-state business with over fifteen locations is now reduced to five.. soon to be three.. the corporation's real estate people decided to just give up on negotiating the lease for two of our locations over six months ago and now the store I work at and another location is closing.
The shitty part is, we just learned about it on Friday 5/5/23.. they've known about it since November.. now we have to help them close down our store and move all of the inventory and equipment out in about six weeks time.. they promised that we can keep our jobs, but they don't even have another building lined up to lease or buy, and I don't think they could have one slapped together in six weeks… So.. pretty sure we are all getting laid-off.. I'll be requesting a big severance package for the ball they dropped on me.. but what else can I do?
