Had a manager who asked if I would like to leave an hour early from work due to them scheduling too many workers for the day. I had politely declined since they had recently cut hours and on average hours have gone down to sub >15 hour work weeks.
They insisted since they claim to schedule people for longer than needed, since so many workers don't show up and they expect to be short staffed.(I wonder why) I proceeded to say that I believe it to be unreasonable to pin the responsibility of them over scheduling people onto me especially given the recent drastic decrease in hours due to them over hiring, since they anticipate a high turnover rate.
The manager went upstairs, and proceeded to talk to the GM. Shortly after the GM announced on the radio
“if you were scheduled till 6 today and are being useless, then just leave” “By the way I was referring to you 'Genesiss3' “. This was announced over the radio, which could be heard by the customers in the line given that our radios play via walkie talkie speaker which all staff members hold.
I was furious, and stunned by the level of disrespect from me simply asking if I could finish my shift that THEY scheduled me for. I have worked with them for over 7 months and dealt with backhanded comments and unprofessionalism but this crossed the line. The same GM has had multiple interpersonal instances with prior work staff that have led to many workers quitting there position and has certainly added another to that list.
I will be calling HR tomorrow when there line opens and file an official complaint, and I will not step forth into that building again. Thankfully my second job is delightful and has always been a pleasure to work with and I will continue to work with them as I fill in the new gap.
