Boss commits suicide; still expected to work

So, the owner of the company my partner works for committed suicide last night. We’re not sure of his reasons, but we suspect it’s due to the enormous pressure the company has been under. They have issues with fulfilling contracts, making payments to vendors, and paying contractors. So, the owner took his life last night. My partner still went to work today because he was fearful that the general contractor (GC) he’s working with right now would lose his shit if my partner didn’t come in. Granted, my partner’s company is months behind schedule on this project, but I would have expected the GC to have a little sympathy for the situation. When did we stop being decent to each other?
