So I have a manager that never writes things down. Every instruction is verbal and sometimes he records our zoom calls where he’s giving instructions (and then never posts them anywhere so that they can be reviewed by anyone)
Recently they reached out to me on Microsoft Teams in a group message with their boss on the thread calling me out for not having delivered something (that isn’t due) until two-three weeks from then. Stating they are concerned I’m not performing and keeping up as well as my peers.
I should add that I’m hitting all of my goals that are (very vaguely) claimed we are measured against. The deadline for the thing I haven’t completed yet is still two weeks out …so how can they be saying I’m under performing if we aren’t even up close to the completion date yet ?
I feel based on the tone of the communication that they’re building a case to justify my eventual termination (purely on the grounds that they don’t like me since I’m the one person on the team they didn’t hand-pick for the role when they were nepotism hired into the position by their boss)
And the fact that this communication came over a Teams group message, instead of a 1×1 call or private communication leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
My thought process was to start documenting these interactions into some sort of journal so at least I have record of it. And also voice recording our calls (one party consent state) to have some evidence of their behaviors should I need to defend my position.
Just not sure what else would be wise to do since I’m basically being gaslit and bullied repeatedly and it’s difficult to continue to perform under those conditions. I’m working on leaving but doing it on my terms and not his.
