One of the owners of the company I work for is, lets just say, a narcissistic asshole.
One of my coworkers who has been at the company for over 25 years and is in their mid seventies (well into retirement age) and has recently handed in their resignation. This employee is essentially the face of the company and is incredibly reliable and kind. However my boss has the emotional maturity level of a 5 year old and is extremely pissed.
All day I've overheard my boss complaining and whinging on the phone to sales reps and suppliers we deal with about how inconsiderate this employee is for quitting and leaving them short staffed, because now they have to manage all this extra work. Mind you over half their workforce has left over the past 2 years and they have replaced no one because they can just pass on/absorb the extra work and save a fuck tonne of money by not having to pay staff.
You can literally give 25 years of your life to a company and they will still treat you like shit and not give a single fuck about you. The idea of meritocracy is beyond redundant. My boss (and many others) can be an absolute dumb c**ts thinking that employees in their 70s wont retire, treat everyone like shit and they will still make millions of dollars a year.
Fuck this system honestly. People just bully their way to the top and win.
