So I started this position as a mechanical engineer in a small EPC consulting firm in Italy in 2021.
A couple of weeks into the job I started noticing how my boss was raising his voice at the secretary. A full month into the job I heard the first “You fu*ing c*nt, who*e, useless human being!”. Same with the blue collar workers.
That became almost a daily routine. Those persons have been working in this company for the past 20 years roughly. I cannot believe that there's people out there willing to be insulted every single day of their life in exchange for money. Some of them are being paid more to take the extra heat. (I saw some of the paychecks)
The first time he tried raising his voice with me I turned off my phone and stopped speaking to him. He never did it again. In fact I was being paid the barely legal minimum wage afterwards. No production or sales bonuses, even though I am the only one that can do this job here and it will take a lot of time to find a suitable replacement.
This month, though, I am moving to a better company which has already given me a substantial raise and a growth program I can follow (all written in the new contract).
It feels good to have a win from time to time!
