Boss made me pay for stuff when normally…

Back story: One of my old jobs was a vehicle/construction equipment and event hire store. Family owned and run. My boss was the founder's son who ran the day to day operations. They had least 100 employees and were doing really well for themselves. My pop worked there and was the person who got me the job. Every now and then he would borrow equipment for home use or things for a family members party, tables and chairs etc. Our boss would let him have stuff free of charge. Other people used to get the same treatment whereas others were made to pay varying rates, depending on the bosses mood I guess. Pop always told me to get anything I thought I might need from work through him, which I did many times.

After working there for 5 years and busting my arse for them I figured I might get the same treatment. Nope the best he could do was 50% off and cash only. He printed the hire schedule and said you can pay me when you're done.

No worries, I didn't argue or care in the end it was only 80$ for something I would've paid full price for somewhere else as I needed it for a party.

Then it hit me, this arsehole is probably going to cancel the hire once he gets my cash and pocket the cash.

If there's no deposit it can be deleted as you get multiple no shows for bookings daily and it's not something that would need to be reported in their books.

After I returned the gear to the other Depo I told the guy behind the counter i owed some money for the hire I made and paid on card. I stupidly said I'm going to make him pay tax on it in a joking way but I didn't realise at the time this guy who I've worked with before was a boot licker.

A couple days later the boss confronted me about it so I realised instantly what I said to old mate got me in trouble.

He said the only reason you got a good deal was because it had to be cash only and I just said oh yeah sorry and he left it at that.

Fuck him, the rich bastard i knew what he was up to
