Few days ago, I reported my co-worker to my boss that I caught him smoking dab pen (cannabis dab pen) right in front of me in the truck trailer. Mind you, this co-worker was one of lowest performing among our team. He runs away to sit in bathrooms for more than 40 minutes, dilly dally about his work phones to not working; having to “update” his work phone when he is actually supposed to be doing the task that requires him to use the work phone, he would take literally hours on a simple task, et cetera.
This is not the first time that he's been caught smoking on worksite, he's been dabbing the pen in breakroom, worksite, bathroom, and sometimes during the shift. It would smell like cannabis in the breakroom. I'm not against on the cannabis, but all of us have the common sense not to do it on our shift.
This particular co-worker NEVER gets written up or anything at all to learn his accountability. This co-worker comes out bragging that he didn't even get written up after I reported on him for smoking the dab pen. Our assistant managers had reported him to the boss many times about his poor performance. It is not making our team's performance any better because in the end, we end up doing his task and he expects us to pick his slack up. As a result, he never gets written up, coached, or anything in the writing that he has to take accountability.
On the flip side, our boss practically dismisses everything he does at work except for the rest of our team. We would get micromanaged for the little reasons, get called out for slight mistakes, if we arrive late; we would have to explain why we were late while the boss cuts this bad co-worker some slack. Sometimes the boss would freak out and ask anyone where they've been when they go to bathroom for only 5 minutes. This is why the rest of the team feels like he has something on the boss or whatever it is. Also we feel it is unfair that he wasn't even treated the same as we did.
I don't even know what to do in this situation because our team knows he's going to continue it further without having any of consequences fall on him.
TL;DR My boss doesn't even bother to write up or fire a bad worker thats been pulling our team's performance down and we get yelled at for our failures.
