boss said he’d give me a promotion, but he gave it to somebody else when he said he wouldn’t. what the fuck?

to make a long story short, my boss interviewed me for a customer service leader position and told me that out of all the interviews he did, mine was by far the best and that he would give me the position if i could get better with working the features of our customer service lane and at interacting with customers (i have social anxiety). he even told me that until then, he would not give the position to anybody else. long story short, i did get better – WAY better – and he even noticed and acknowledged it too, but he still gave the position to somebody else. i'm not even gonna lie, i feel hurt. i get it, this coworker might be better or whatever, but i was told i would be given the position on MULTIPLE different accounts and like, months ago too. i also picked up extra…

i'm not even gonna lie, i feel hurt. i get it, this coworker might be better or whatever, but i was told i would be given the position on MULTIPLE different accounts and like, months ago too. i also picked up extra shifts any chance i could and went far outside of my comfort zone when interacting with customers just so i could prove to him that i'm fit for the position – and he still gave it to someone else.

i'm so hurt man. i wanted that position more than anything. should i just quit? am i getting treated unfairly?
